Why we tell you to use: HEAT PROTECTION

So, the easiest way to explain this is using the sun as a prime example. You wouldn’t go on holiday to a sunny country and sit out in the sun every day without applying sun cream to protect your skin from the sun, would you? If you did, your skin would be feeling a little worse for wear at the end, it would most likely discolour and dry out and not quite have the same feel to it.

This is just like your hair, not using heat protection when using heated styling tools WILL dry it out, affect the colour and completely change the texture over time. Heat protection, whether it be a cream or spray, will 100% save your hair a lot of unnecessary stress. Your hair is made up on keratin and lipids, both very important to the condition of your hair. Keratin is eroded at any heat, even lower heat settings like 130 degrees, meaning even if you use a lower heat setting on a styling tool, you will still get damage without protection.

76% of people in the UK are estimated to use heated tools almost every day, whether it be a hairdryer, a wand or a pair of straighteners. Out of that 76% only 1 in 7 people used heat protection on their hair, and when asked why, the main response was people not quite understanding why they need to.

Heat protection obviously protects your hair from direct use of high heat when styling, that’s the main purpose of it but it also does so much more. Heat protection puts an invisible barrier around each strand of hair, meaning each hair is protected but also the products you’ve used in the shower or prior to applying heat protection are locked in the hair and unable to come out. This means if you’ve used an oil based conditioner, the effects of the oil are more likely to be noticeable as they won’t be worked off the hair as fast.

In a similar way, heat protection also helps improve the longevity of your colour. Remember I was talking about the protective barrier on your hair, this also helps lock in the colour particles within your hair and stops heated tools being able to fade them off as fast. If you struggle with colour fade, this might just be the solution you’ve been looking for. We get some people complaining about the texture of their hair suddenly changing over a few months, even though they use higher end products to shampoo and condition their hair.

This is often down to the lack of heat protection being given to the hair, if you use heated tools without protection, the lipids within your hair are broken down over time and that in turns become more and more noticeable over time, when you sit and think about it, it all starts to make sense.

There’s countless video examples of this shown on line when you really start researching into it, but take it from us, its science and it really does make a difference.

Why not ask your stylist to show you our heat protection range at your next appointment? We have a variant of different types to suit your hair needs and life style.
